Prosecutor's office launches website

The Highland County Prosecutor's Office has launched a new website, aimed at keeping Highland County residents informed about the legal system and court processes.
Prosecutor Anneka Collins told The Highland County Press that people often have a lot of questions regarding cases and the legal process, and the website will help the office offer explanations and keep people up to date.
"A lot of people have questions about what our office is doing, questions about the status of cases, and the process in criminal proceedings," Collins said. "I thought that a webpage that we can update regularly and explain matters would be an efficient way to communicate."
A majority of county prosecuting attorney offices have websites, Collins said, but that cost had been a prohibiting factor.
"I had priced having a website done and was quoted prices from $100 to $150 per page," Collins said. "Because we do not have a lot of money in our budget, I didn't think we could do it."
However, a source close to home allowed the office to have the site designed for free, with the only cost coming from the domain name.

Collins' mother, Luanna Fairley, is a student at Southern State Community College, and a final for a class she is taking required that she build a fully functioning website.
"It really worked out," Collins said. "All we had to do was pay for the domain name."
Those funds will come from the prosecutor's Furtherance of Justice Fund, Collins said.
Fairley researched the websites of prosecutors' offices throughout the state, Collins said, and came up with a design that will convey the information and allow area residents to communicate and submit questions.
"There is a contact link, and if people have question or if there is something they want to know about, click on the email link and submit a comment and we'll see that the question gets answered," Collins said.
The site, www.highlandcountyprosecutor.com, launched this week.
"People often have questions on things like bond or the grand jury process, and this allows us to explain that, while also explaining what it is the office does," Collins said. "I am so excited about it."
Highland County Common Pleas Court launched its own website last year, which allows court schedules and case dockets to be viewed online.
