    Liberty fire, Lynchburg police levies defeated

    Voters in Liberty Township and the Village of Lynchburg each turned down levies to support fire and police protection, respectively in Tuesday's primary.

    Primary Election Results: Mustard, Wilkin move on to general election WATCH THE VIDEO

    Unofficial results area showing that Republican incumbent Shane Wilkin beat fellow GOP challenger Steve Cowdrey, while Paint Township Trustee Randy Mustard won over fellow Democrat Josh Patton Tuesday in the primary race for candidates for the Highland County Board of Commissioners. 

      According to unofficial results from the Highland County Board of Elections, Wilkin, who is seeking his second term in office, received 3,435 votes, while Cowdrey received 1,862.

    Mustard had 873 votes, and Patton received 462 votes, unofficially.

    Two Winchester residents charged in thefts
    Two Winchester residents face charges after being arrested March 3 by the Hillsboro Police Department. Darrell James Ertel, 33, and Natasha Brodess, 24, were charged in connection with the theft of a Support Our Troops donation jar from Holtfield Station in Hillsboro. Ertel also is charged with stealing a woman's wallet at Kroger, the HPD said.

    Hillsboro business owner interviewed by BBC America

    Hillsboro Uptown business owner Brent Huffman was interviewed by BBC America Sunday afternoon for a piece about the U.S. presidential election, scheduled to air this week. 

      Huffman said the reporter wanted to interview him for a BBC World Service report and was interested in his perspective as a small business owner who voted for Obama in 2008 expecting change but has now turned back to his Republican roots.

    The BBC is also scheduled to interview Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings on Monday.

    Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss overruled a defense motion to suppress Thursday in a case where items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were allegedly found at a residence where children were reported to be present.

    No storm damage reported in Highland County
    While communities in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky are reporting the touchdown of funnel clouds and extensive damage, Highland County seems to have escaped major damage when a storm system moved through the area Friday evening. However, many county residents were reportedly without power.

    Hillsboro removes signs that prohibit cruising
    The city of Hillsboro has removed the street signs that prevent cruising in the uptown area. Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings said that while he is not initiating an organized movement to bring cruising back, should it happen "organically" and bring patrons to local uptown businesses, it may be positive for the community.

    Dr. Steve Iseman earns East Central District Platinum Award
    The East Central District Board of Directors of the Public Relations Society of America has announced that Dr. Steve Iseman is the recipient of the 2011 East Central District Platinum Award. Dr. Iseman, a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield, was a professor at Ohio Northern University for 18 years.
