    U.S. bank donates to YMCA

    U.S. Bank donated $1,000 to the Highland County Family YMCA on Monday to go toward the Y's annual Kids Who Count campaign. Terry Mull, YMCA director, said that they set out to raise $30,000 for the program, which provides scholarships to children for YMCA memberships. "The YMCA will never turn a child away for membership," Mull said. Kids who qualify need  a recommendation from a teacher, pastor, social worker or any other involved adult who can express the child's need.     Fire destroys area home
    No injuries were reported in an early morning fire that destroyed the home of a local family.
     According to Capt. Jeff Martin of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, the department was dispatched at approximately 5:54 a.m. Monday to a reported structure fire in the 9000 block of Rock Lick Road.
     When crews arrived on scene they discovered two mobile homes that "had been placed together to fashion a double-wide home," Martin said.

    Hamilton County, Cincinnati mull proposed police, sheriff merger
    Members of Cincinnati City Council are considering a proposal to merge city police patrols within the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, according to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer. Council members Roxanne Qualls, Wendell Young and Jeff Berding proposed the idea to help offset a $60 million budget deficit.

    More snow in the forecast Tuesday morning
    A low-pressure system is expected to bring more snow, with a mix of freezing rain, to southern Ohio early Tuesday, Dec. 21. According to the National Weather Service, light snow should develop around 4 a.m. Tuesday, with up to an inch of accumulation.

    Ohio's jobless rate dips to 9.8 percent
    Ohio's unemployment rate was 9.8 percent in November, down slightly from 9.9 percent in October, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 7,800 over the month, from the revised 5,022,800 in October to 5,015,000 in November.

    Lees Creek woman killed in SR 72 crash; Hillsboro man injured
    A Lees Creek woman was killed Friday afternoon in a two-car crash on state Route 72 near the intersection of state Route 729, according to the Wilmington Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol. A Hillsboro man was also injured in the crash.

    No L-C students injured in bus crash; bus may be totaled
    Students riding a bus to school escaped injury following a crash that broke the axle of a Lynchburg-Clay School bus after it was struck by a car on icy roadways Friday. However, one person riding in the car was transported for injuries.
     L-C Superintendent Greg Hawk told The Highland County Press that the bus was traveling in the early morning hours on state Route 134.

    Bond set at $75,000 for alleged Hillsboro shooter
    Bond was set at $75,000 for an area resident charged with shooting a Hillsboro man in the face.
     Jimmie Jacobs, of Hillsboro, was arrested earlier this week on one charge of felonious assault after he allegedly shot Jonathan Harris, 28, of Hillsboro at J and J Automotive, where Harris lives.

    Man pleads guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with minor, receives community control
    An area  man who pleaded guilty in November to a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor has been sentenced to community control.
     James Anthony Price had pleaded guilty to the fourth degree felony charge, on which he had been indicted earlier this year, on Nov. 4.

    Hillsboro man arrested in connection with shooting
    Police have arrested 64-year-old Jimmie Jacobs, of Hillsboro, in the alleged shooting of a Hillsboro man.
     According to Hillsboro Police Chief Nick Thompson, Jonathan Harris, 28, of Hillsboro, was shot in the face Wednesday evening at J and J Automotive, which is also his residence, located at 60 Belfast Pike.

    Burst pipe causes ceiling of New Directions to collapse, causing thousands in damages
    A burst pipe in an apartment above the New Directions Youth Ministry in Greenfield caused the ceiling of the facility to collapse Wednesday, causing thousands of dollars in damages. New Directions had just completed a $40,000 renovation of the facility, located at 251 Jefferson St. earlier this year.
     Director Mike Anderson and his wife Becky said that the damage is "devastating," but they are trying to keep it in perspective.
