Crews continue to combat snow, ice

Although the brunt of today’s storm has passed through the region and road conditions are improving, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 continue clearing the state highway system this afternoon.
Working 12-hour shifts, snow plow operators throughout the area are plowing and treating routes to clear snow and prevent ice from forming. Currently, routes in District 9’s eight-county region are partly to mostly snow covered, with some clearing in the driving lane on four-lane routes and snow beginning to break up on primary two-lane routes.
However, slush or patches of hard-packed snow remains on many primary routes, and secondary routes are still mostly snow covered. As pavement becomes clear and wet, routes are likely to be slick and prone to icing or freeze backs.
Motorists are advised of potential black ice and of ice forming on bridges and overpasses, as well as localized areas of drifting snow. They are also reminded to pay heed to ODOT crews, giving snow plow drivers room to work. Remember: Don't Crowd the Plow!
During inclement winter weather, motorists should allow additional travel time, reduce their speed and allow plenty of distance between their vehicle and other vehicles on the road. Remember: Ice and Snow…Take it Slow!
