    The Highland District Hospital Foundation will be holding its annual golf outing Saturday, June 22 at the Elks golf course in Hillsboro.
  • Community fundraiser Saturday for Lynchburg youth
    A fundraising benefit for Hunter J. Rawlins of Lynchburg is being held Saturday, May 4 from noon-6 p.m. at the Lynchburg Firehouse. Hunter recently turned 15, but he has been in and out of hospitals since birth. He now has Stage 4 kidney failure, along with several other very serious ailments.
  • Commissioners proclaim May as Foster Care Month
    Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer proclaimed the month of May as Foster Care Month in Highland County Wednesday, with a number of representatives from Highland County Children's Services in attendance, as well as Highland County Job and Family Services Executive Director Debbie Robbins, who oversees HCCS.

    Volunteers conducted a spring cleanup at the Scott House Saturday. Volunteers planted, mulched, repaired brick, and stained the front door to spruce it up for spring.

    At their Wednesday, April 24 meeting, Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer proclaimed the week of April 22-26 as National Crime Victims' Rights Week and reaffirmed the commitment of the Highland County Victim Witness Program to respect and enforce victims' rights and observe National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
  • Good Samaritan Awards presented to Chad Williamson, Andrea Brown for life-saving actions
    Chad Williamson and Andrea Brown were honored Friday evening at Ye Old Tavern on Belfast Pike in Hillsboro. Tavern patrons recognized both Williamson and Brown with a commemorative plaque which reads: "Good Samaritan Award (to): Chad Williamson and Andrea Brown, For your unselfish act to help one of your fellow men in a time of need, with no regard to your own safety."

    First-responders took students through the aftermath of a fatal car crash, from the initial 911 call, to emergency response and transport, and the notification of next of kin. Officers explained the impact of such a potential lethal decision to drink and drive, and also stressed the hurt that such action can cause to other family members.

    WRFD-TV will be filming footage for upcoming programming in Brown County at a Hess Auction Co. farm equipment auction for its "Successful Farming Machinery Show." The farm equipment auction, which will begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, is an absolute auction, selling the property of longtime Farm Bureau member Richard Bissantz, who is retiring from farming.
