Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of March 23-29, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 527 911 calls, answered 158 requests for service, dispatched 140 fire and EMS runs, took 35 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.
The sheriff’s office received an alarm drop at 1:56 a.m. on March 24 from a South Main Street business in Lynchburg. A passerby called a short time later to report the front window of the business had been broken out. Deputies and a key holder arrived on scene and discovered the premises had been entered and items were missing. Video surveillance evidence was reviewed, and a report was taken. This incident remains under investigation.
At 11:14 p.m. on Friday, March 27, an accidental shooting was reported to the sheriff’s office by the Highland District Hospital emergency room. The incident took place at a residence on US 50 in Paint Township. A deputy responded to the scene to interview witnesses and collect evidence. The victim was later transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. All the circumstances surrounding the incident appear to be consistent with an accident, but an investigation is still under way.

Deputies were dispatched to a Danville Road address on Saturday night at 11:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at that location. Once on scene, a male was taken into custody for violation of a civil protection order. Chaz Michael McKinney, 22, of Lynchburg was transported to the Highland County Justice Center. He was scheduled for arraignment in Hillsboro Municipal Court on Monday morning.
On Sunday, March 29 at 10:57 p.m. a break-in was reported at a Main Street business in Lynchburg. A smashed window was the apparent point of entry for the thieves, who made off with an undetermined amount of cash and other items. An offense report was taken, and the incident remains under investigation.
