Highland County Sheriff's Report
Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of March 30 to April 5, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 484 911 calls, answered 174 requests for service, dispatched 119 fire and EMS runs, took 27 offense reports and investigated nine traffic crashes.
The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 11:51 p.m. on March 30 from a Roush Road property owner reporting what sounded like a woman screaming and two men fighting. The caller witnessed a small black car parked on the roadway near the scene of the disturbance. Deputies arrived on scene quickly, but the suspects had already fled on foot. An HCSO K9 was called to track the suspects, but they were never located. The vehicle left behind had no registration and was impounded by the Sheriff’s Office. During the follow-up investigation, the vehicle was found to have been involved in a pursuit a few days prior in Clinton County. Suspects have been identified and are currently being sought.
A deputy was dispatched to a residence on state Route 73 in Liberty Township at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1 when a female there tried to commit suicide. Paint Creek EMS also responded and transported the patient to Highland District Hospital. A report was taken.

At 6:45 a.m. on April 1, a resident of the 13000 block of US 50 called the Sheriff’s Office to report her car window had been broken out and items were stolen from the vehicle. A deputy arrived on scene a short time later to collect evidence and take an offense report. The incident remains under investigation.
On Thursday, April 2, a resident of Washington Street in Lynchburg called to report two suspicious females walking near Eastern Avenue. The caller thought they might be intoxicated and underage. A deputy was sent to patrol the area, but no one fitting that description was located.
A 911 call placed at 7:43 p.m. on Friday had deputies rushing to the scene of an alleged fight on Roundhead Road. The caller reported a man and woman were fighting in the middle of the roadway. Once on scene, it was determined that the argument was verbal, and no assault occurred. No charges were filed.
