Brown calls on USDA to act to prevent spread of invasive beetle

As international trade with China has grown, the Asian longhorned beetle has found a safe haven in wood crates traveling to our shores. The Asian longhorned beetle is an invasive species known to be particularly damaging to a variety of trees that are native to Ohio – including maple, birch, and willow. The Asian longhorned beetle’s practice of burrowing within tree trunks also shows them to be resistant to popular extermination techniques, such as chemical sprays.

Bill to improve emergency preparedness passes House concurrence

House Bill 128 would also address ambulance staffing by clarifying that an ambulance traveling to an emergency scene would only require one EMT or paramedic, who could also serve as the driver. Other personnel would be able to meet the ambulance at the scene to save critical time.

Ohio House passes Senate resolution to urge job creation at Piketon plant

The Ohio House of Representatives has passed a resolution that aims to create thousands of local jobs in southern Ohio and invigorate the state economy. Senate Concurrent Resolution 4 — which is companion legislation to House Concurrent Resolution 4 — urges President Barack Obama to direct the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) to grant a loan to USEC Inc. to ensure the continuation of the uranium enrichment project in Piketon.

Clinton County crash leaves one dead

The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle, fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 22 in Clinton County. The OSHP said a 1993 Pontiac, driven by Cheryl Green, 62, of Middletown, was eastbound on U.S. 22 and traveled off the right side of the highway, into a ditch and creek embankment.

State Representative Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) has announced that yesterday at 3:30 p.m., Governor John Kasich signed into law House Bill 121, which will ensure that an existing custody order for the child of a parent actively serving in the military cannot be altered solely because of that parent’s military service.
