This week, Juillerat Enterprises, LLC, comprised of Klayton and Kara Juillerat and their young daughter, Kenley, announced their acquisition of the property.

Auditor Bill Fawley reported that the county's permissive sales tax remained strong in August, at $482,562.19. For August 2010, the permissive sales tax revenue was $447,637.78. Fawley had less positive news on a projected loss of $191,000 on local government funding from the state. "I was hoping our sales tax increase would offset (cuts in) local government funds next year. But it's not going to be there."

A large number of wild animals escaped from a Zanesville area animal preserve Tuesday, where the owner of Muskingum County Animal Farm, Terry Thompson, was found dead. As a result, several Ohio schools near the preserve have canceled classes Wednesday.

As required by Ohio law, the Ballot Board will meet to determine whether a proposed constitutional amendment regarding medical marijuana consists of more than one amendment. The Ballot Board has 10 days from the date the certification is received from the Attorney General to complete this task.

For a small state, Ohio has had a big impact on America. Meet the co-authors of “It Happened in Ohio” during a special event 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Learning Resources Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. Artwork commissioned by American Physical Society (APS) for the World Year of Physics in 2005 has found a new home in southern Ohio. A New World View was presented recently to North Adams High School in Seaman. A ceremony was held earlier this academic year at North Adams.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office, along with the D.A.R.E. program, sponsored a dinner at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center on Oct. 13, in order to honor local law enforcement.

The Ohio Supreme has ruled to allow an effort to repeal the state's new Republican-drawn congressional map. Ohio Republican lawmakers have placed Highland County in the southwest corner of a horseshoe-shaped 15th Congressional District, isolated from virtually all of the rest of the district.
