Once again, the Fairfield Lions left a Saturday cross-country competition as champions, this time staying within Highland County to do so by taking home the top spot at the 2016 Ohio Classic held at Hillsboro’s Liberty Park.

Fairfield’s Ciara Colwell raced in her first Ohio Classic at the varsity level on Saturday afternoon at Liberty Park in Hillsboro. The freshman racer defeated 77 other runners to take home the top spot, winning by nearly a minute over the second-place finisher.

The Fairfield boys golf team played at the Wilmington Elks on Tuesday (Aug. 30), coming away with two victories over both Blanchester and Lynchburg-Clay.

The Fairfield Lady Lions soccer program has won two of their past three soccer matches, including one of those wins being a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory.

In the small Division II/III boys cross-country race at the Bob Schul Invitational Saturday morning, the three-time state qualifying Fairfield Lions cross-country team showed teams from the rest of the state they still have the strength to return and compete at that level once again this season.

The Fairfield Lions had a tough start Friday night, trailing at halftime by three goals. They managed to have a more productive second half, but it was too late for the Lions to gain a win, falling to the Peebles Indians, 4-2 in their boys soccer conference opener.
