Fairfield ranked 4th in Pre-Regional Coaches Poll

The Division III SE District champion Fairfield Lions are ranked in the Top 5 of the Pre-Regional Cross-Country Poll released Thursday by the coaches association.

The Lions are ranked fourth overall out of a total of 26 teams ranked. In the vote, the Lions received 201 points.

Earning the top spot in the poll was Maplewood with 237 points, including nine first-place votes. Second went to St. Thomas Aquinas with 231 points, including three first-place votes. Fort Loramie was third at 206 points. Next were the aforementioned Lions in fourth, and rounding out the Top 5 was Smithville with 191 points.

The sixth through 10th place spots in the coaches poll went to McDonald (171), Mt. Gilead (153), Carey (141), Anna (116) and Caldwell (112).

This season, the Lions won their sixth consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship, along with their sixth straight SE District title in Division III. Last season, the Lions were Regional Runners-Up at Pickerington North High School.

Fairfield has also qualified for the OHSAA State Meet as a team the past three seasons (2013-15), including last year where they placed eighth overall.

The Lions will race at the ’16 regionals at Pickerington North High School on Saturday, Oct. 29, with the event starting at 11 a.m.
