Fairfield Lady Lions earn SHAC championship

The Fairfield Lady Lions were not expected to win the Southern Hills Athletic Conference cross-country championship at the start of the season. They showed everyone this season how hard work and determination can not only lead to improvement, but championship success as well.
The Lady Lions won the 2016 SHAC championship by 16 points on Saturday morning, scoring 57 points to take overall team championship. In second place was Eastern Brown with 73 points, and in third was Manchester at 75.
Fairfield freshman Ciara Colwell was the race runner-up with a time of 20:02.1. The winner was Jenny Seas of Peebles at 18:01.5.

FHS had a total of two of the Top 10 spots in the race, with eighth place being Megan Gragg with a time of 22:01.0. In 13th place was Chloe Barber with a time of 22:29.2.
The 17th-place spot went to Alexis Swisher at 23:23.1, and in 21st place overall was Hayliegh Lowe with a time of 23:55.4.
Also for the Lady Lions, times included: Sarah Wuellner (25:18.5), Laynee Duffie (25:18.8), Meadow Cunningham (26:34.4), Sarah Young (27:55.1) and Haleigh Bates (30:35.5).
Lynchburg-Clay had two runners in the Top 20, with Angela McLaughlin in 12th place at 22:28.6 and Lexi Waits in 20th at 23:53.5.
Whiteoak also had two runners in the Top 20 wth Taylor Tackett in 16th at 22:58.1 and Kattie Taylor in 19th at 23:50.8.
