Some will argue we live in a republic; others may say we live in a democracy. I say both are wrong. We live in a dictatorship. It is not the old-fashioned type of dictatorship with one leader, it has many leaders ensconced in all the various bureaucracies. 

Hillsboro Christian Academy hosted its first home basketball game of the season Tuesday, Nov. 21. The HCA Crusaders defeated the Scioto Christian Soldiers, 57-36, in the varsity boys matchup. The Lady Crusaders defeated the Lady Soldiers, 39-13.

It is our hope that today will be a day of real Thanksgiving for every one, that it will contain much joy and gladness and that no one will overlook an opportunity to cause some less fortunate brother to have real cause to give thanks. 

Basketball season is underway for Hillsboro Christian Academy. Both the Crusaders and Lady Crusaders begin their seasons with a record of 1-1 after playing back-to-back days on Nov. 16-17.

A fundraising event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 for Highland County sheriff candidate Randy Sanders.

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 Commander Rick Wilkin has announced that Scott Amos will be the guest speaker at Veterans Day services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Post.

I urge everyone to vote "yes" on Issue 14; this will help ease the burden the agency currently experiences.

The day before Halloween 2023 was a Monday. It was a real Monday all the way around.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, delegates from the WCTU organization in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky will visit Hillsboro. The ladies will tour the Highland House Museum, lay a wreath at the grave of Eliza Thompson, attend a service at the Presbyterian Church, and re-enact the walk made by the temperance marchers in 1873. 

On Oct. 28, Hillsboro students and families gathered together to give back to Ingrid Griffith. Ingrid has been blessing the Highland County community since 2019.

So, who makes us enemies? It clearly does not happen on the one-on-one, person-to-person level. I lay this issue at the feet of politicians worldwide.

The city of Hillsboro has lifted the boil advisory for Timber Lane and Hickory Hills Drive.

The Hillsboro Christian Academy Lady Crusaders won their third straight Emmanuel Baptist Classic Tournament in varsity girls’ volleyball on Saturday, Oct. 14. 

Hillsboro Christian Academy will host a fall bazaar Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the school, 849 South High St., Hillsboro.
