Rotarian Rick Williams conducted the dessert auction consisting of 29 different items that were sold for a total of $5,415 smashing the previous record of $2,830. The total of ticket sales and additional donations was $884 resulting in another event record total of $6,299.  

There are some people in this world who are born to be useful idiots. Lord knows, today I feel like one of them. While I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, most days I am not without some measure of intelligence and influence.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera has informed The Highland County Press that effective Tuesday, afternoon March 12, Chief Deputy Brandon Stratton has been placed – again – on administrative leave, after being fully reinstated earlier in the same day.

I attended the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky. on Feb. 16. This is something I have wanted to do for years, and finally matters aligned in such a way that it could happen.

The city of Hillsboro has lifted the boil advisory for Fair Street from John Street to Elm Street.

Hillsboro Christian Academy hosted senior day on Feb. 17 in a pair of varsity games against the Sugar Creek Christian Academy Eagles. The Lady Crusaders lost to the Lady Eagles by a final score of 50-20. 

Ladies and gentlemen, for nearly four decades, the Rev. Joseph McDowell Mathews was a pioneer of Highland County education. From beginning a school for boys in the late 1820s, to founding the Oakland Female Seminary in the 1830s, to being the head of the Hillsboro Female College, he was a well-known educator in Highland County despite being struggling with ill health for much of his life.

On Feb. 15, Jimmy Phelps, manager of the Papa John’s in Hillsboro, Tami Takes the Cake Cookies and Christian illusionist Jake Lindsey came together to raise funds for a family in need.
