Mustangs 6th place at Div. II District Golf Tournament

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had their 2024 championship season come to a close on Wednesday, as they placed sixth overall at the Division III District Golf Tournament held at the Crown Hill Golf Course.

The Mustangs had a score of 352 for the match. Westfall won the team district championship with a score of 325, followed by runner-up Ironton at 326, as the Top 2 teams were state qualifiers.

In third was Fairland (336), followed by fourth-place West Union (345), and fifth was Gallia Academy (346).

Next were the Mustangs (352), followed by the rest of the Top 10: Fairfield Union (353), Piketon (356), Logan Elm (356) and Coal Grove Dawson-Bryant (365).

Lynchburg-Clay was led by freshman Nolan Wilkin with a score of 83, tied for 11th place overall, as he shot a 45 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine.

LC senior Saxen Wilkin was next for LCHS with a score of 85 (38, 47) for a tie for 18th place.

The Mustangs also had senior Braedon West card an 89 score, third place on the team and 30th place overall, as his scores included 44 and 45 in the 18 holes played.

LCHS also had sophomore Aiden Bene card a 95 (48, 47) for a 49th-place finish, and freshman Jackson West scored a 98 (45, 53) for 55th place overall.

This season, the Mustangs won their second Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship in program history, and they were sectional runners-up at Jaycees Golf Course.
