The agriculture department at Southern State Community College will hold a plant sale from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, in the atrium lobby of the college’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

Dr. Paul Terrell, Highland County Corner, recently participated in the Ohio State Coroners Association's 66th annual Education Conference. More than 80 Ohio coroners from
across the state attended the conference held in Columbus May 5-7.

On Sunday, May 8 at 2:39 a.m., several officers of the Hillsboro Police Department assisted officers of the Highland County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in responding to a report of an altercation outside of Christopher's Lounge at 150 West Main Street in Hillsboro.

The case against Hillsboro man arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Larry's Party Shop has been bound over for consideration by a grand jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

A Hillsboro man indicted on a charge of first-degree felony aggravated robbery in connection with an armed robbery at the Beechwood Food Mart in January pleaded guilty Thursday, and was sentenced to five years in prison.
  Larry W. Smith, 41, told the court that he had never been in jail before he made a "stupid" mistake in robbing the grocery store with a BB gun.

The Supreme Court of Ohio has adopted amendments to the Ohio Traffic Rules that clarify the authority of traffic violations bureaus and conform the required experience of magistrates. The changes become effective July 1.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is joining Governor John Kasich in recognizing May as National Foster Care Month and urging all Ohioans to do something positive to make a difference for children and youth in foster care.

Drew Hastings defeated opponents Rod Daniels and Terry Mikkelsen Tuesday during the Republican primary election Tuesday in the race for Hillsboro mayor, receiving unofficially 295 votes.
 Hastings will face Independent candidate John Levo in the November general election.
  With all five Hillsboro precincts reporting, unofficially, Terry Mikkelsen received 97 votes, while Rod Daniels received 68 votes.

Turnout for the primary election that will decide the Republican candidate for Hillsboro mayor is low, according to poll workers and the Highland County Board of Elections, with just a few hours until the polls close.
