  • SSCC selects architect for campus expansion; discusses enrollment

    Selection of an architect for the Brown County campus expansion project, a report on the rebranding initiative and a decrease in enrollment were among the agenda items discussed during the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday.
     
    During the meeting, held at the Fayette Campus in Washington C.H., SSCC Vice President of Business and Finance Jim Buck reported to the board that he anticipates the college will be able to finish the fiscal year "well within our current budget" despite a more than 13-percent decrease in enrollment.
  • Hillsboro man gets 3 years after 14 people victimized in lake area
    A Hillsboro man charged with 15 felony and misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property from 14 different victims in the Rocky Fork Lake area has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison. 
  • Former court employee withdraws motion to seal conviction
    A former employee with the Highland County Common Pleas Court, who was convicted in 2006 of felony charges of tampering with records and forgery, has withdrawn a motion for expungement.
    
     Tammy Sandlin was convicted by a jury in November 2006 of a third-degree felony charge of tampering with records and a fifth-degree felony charge of forgery.
  • Dr. Stephen Iseman first inductee to Hall of Fame
    The Edward Lee McClain Alumni Association is pleased to announce the very first induction to the Hall of Fame. Dr. Stephen Dane Iseman will be inducted on April 24 at the annual Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony.
  • EMA to meet April 18
    There will be a meeting for the Highland County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Highland County Administration Building. The purpose of the meeting will be to elect the members of the Executive Board for the EMA.
  • Committee considers change of meeting dates for Greenfield council
    The ordinance committee of the Greenfield Village Council will recommend that the council meetings be moved from every first and second Tuesday of the month to every first and second Wednesday.

    Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins addressed the Highland County TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Monday, and answered questions regarding the function and duties of the prosecutor's office.
  • 2 enter pleas on drug charges
    Two Leesburg women, in unrelated cases, have entered pleas in Highland County Common Pleas Court to charges filed after it was alleged they did drugs during their pregnancies.
  • Hillsboro school board to meet April 18

    The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session Wednesday, April 18 at the Hillsboro Board of Education Office, 39 Willettsville Pike, at 7 p.m.

  • Council discusses parking ordinance, township contracts WATCH THE VIDEO

       A representative of the Hillsboro Uptown Business Assocaition (HUBA) addressed the Hillsboro City Council Monday to ask that the city once again take a look at enforcing uptown parking regulations.
       Brent Huffman, HUBA vice president, asked council, during its regular April meeting, to consider enforcement, as well as looking into extending the amount of time one patron is allowed to park in a space.

  • Ohio Medicaid selects Managed Care Organizations
    Ohio’s Medicaid managed care program serves approximately 1.5 million individuals 
    enrolled in Ohio’s CFC program, 129,000 enrolled in the state’s ABD program, and 37,000 children with special needs. Ohio’s Medicaid program serves more than 2.1 million low-income Ohioans.
  • Lynchburg-Clay students attend District Science Fair
    On March 17, 11 students from Lynchburg-Clay High School competed in the District 17 Science Day at Wilmington College. Four students received a superior rating and seven students received an excellent rating.
  • Bob Patton presents Marshall school, community history program
    Highland County sports historian Bob Patton presented an April 7 program on the history of Marshall Township and the recently razed Marshall school at the Highland House Museum. Patton, who writes the South Central Ohio League sports history column for The Highland County Press, discussed the history of Marshall High School, including the 1928 Ohio Class B Boys Basketball State Championship team, the Marshall Red Flashes, coached by Snag Emery.
