The Hillsboro Police Department has arrested James Ray of East South Street, Hillsboro, and Alicia Ralston of South High Street, Hillsboro, in connection with a reported breaking and entering on July 23.

A motion to suppress a search that led to the alleged discovery of child pornography on the computer of a Hillsboro man was overruled Friday during a hearing in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
  Dana Jeter, 52, appeared for a suppression hearing before Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss, during which the judge determined that Jeter's fourth amendment rights were not violated because there was no actual search, and therefore a warrant was not needed.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has announced that former Adams County Prosecutor Aaron E. Haslam, co-coordinator of the Ohio Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Unit, was sworn in today as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (SAUSA) in the Southern District of Ohio in the United States Attorney's Office.

Ohio's unemployment rate was 8.8 percent in June, up from 8.6 percent in May, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 10,600 over the month, from the revised 5,095,000 in May to 5,105,600 in June.

Ohio Valley residents are again under an excessive heat warning as the hot air mass from the Plains states has spread eastward. Yesterday's temperatures in Hillsboro reached 96 degrees and today's high is expected to be near 95. It was already 80 degrees by 7 a.m. Friday.

Fawley told commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer that the county’s estimated revenues for this year were approximately $8.225 million and that the collective expenses for next year were estimated at approximately $8.469 million.

The Hillsboro Police Department is investigating the death of a 3-month-old Hillsboro child, although foul play is not suspected. 

According to the HPD, Wednesday at 3:56 p.m., the department responded with Hillsboro Fire and Rescue to a call in the 300 block of South East Street that an infant was not breathing and not responsive.

The Supreme Court of Ohio has adopted a new rule that would require courts to hire a certified foreign language or sign language interpreter, when available, to ensure the “meaningful participation” of deaf and limited English proficient individuals in court proceedings.
