Rotary playground opens to rave reviews

For a child, a year is a very long time to wait. For the children who live in the vicinity of new Rotary Club playground off North East Street, the whole year of waiting for the playground's completion did not seem as long as Monday afternoon, as they watched the final bolts go in and waited for the word that the park was officially open.

Jury finds man not guilty of sending 'obscene' photos to juvenile
A jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court deliberated approximately half an hour Monday before returning a not guilty verdict for a Middletown man charged with disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile.
  Harold Birch had been indicted on the fifth-degree felony charge in March. The state alleged that on Dec. 12, 2010 he had sent six "obscene" photos of a former girlfriend to the woman's 17-year-old daughter.

Ohio Governor John Kasich appointed Kay Boynton Reynolds, area businesswoman, to the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees to complete the remaining five years of an unexpired term.

Four departments battle trailer fire
At least four departments battled this trailer fire Sunday morning in the 10000 block of Cinderella Drive near Rocky Fork Lake.
 Crews from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded with mutual aid from Marshall, Brushcreek and the Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS District to 10906 Cinderella Drive at approximately 5 a.m.

Last call for CAMP
A few spaces are still available for the Aug. 7-13 annual C.A.M.P., which is held at the Tar Hollow Resident Camping area in the Hocking Hills. This is the 56th such summer program, which was originated in 1956 by Dave and Janny Brizius.
