After voting in June not to renew the contract of Superintendent Chuck Biggert, the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities has voted to "reassign" Biggert to "work on projects specifically assigned by the board."
  The board held a special meeting Tuesday at Hills and Dales Training Center. The board met in executive session for approximately an hour to discuss "the discipline and/or dismissal of a public employee or official."

Two Greenfield residents have filed to run for three open seats on the village council, and according to the Highland County Board of Elections, the council will make an appointment to fill the vacant seat.
  The last day to file for the November general election was Aug. 10. The board of elections met Monday morning and certified candidates for the ballot.

The annual Highland County Republican Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. at the VFW Pavilion in Hillsboro, located on US 50 West behind Dairy Queen.

Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced the launch of a new program, Military Ready-to-Vote (MRV), a program designed to make it easier for military personnel to vote while in service to our country.

The Hillsboro Police Department has arrested Gerald R. Williams, 49, of Hillsboro on charges of trafficking in drugs, possession of heroin, receiving stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has obtained a four-count indictment from a federal grand jury in Cincinnati charging Allan Wright, a state wildlife officer in southwest Ohio, with trafficking in and making false records for illegally harvested white-tailed deer in violation of federal law.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating several incidents of criminal damaging and vandalism in the Clay Township area of Highland County. Sgt. Donnie Barrera took a report of vandalism at the Buford School on August 15.

The Hillsboro Police Department and Adult Parole Authority have arrested one suspect and continue to search for a second suspect, following a Friday Aug. 19 investigation. According to a report from the HPD, Jessica Taylor, 29, of Hillsboro has been jailed on felony charges of tampering with evidence, vandalism and possession of a drug instrument. Taylor also had a parole violation and warrant from Clermont County, the HPD said.

Ohio's Republican leaders, who earlier this year pushed through a contentious crackdown on the collective bargaining rights of public workers, now say they will retroactively compromise on the measure in the hopes of removing it from the ballot in November.

Members of the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education said that they are "disappointed" at recent community reaction and media attention on the board's decision to purchase iPads for use during their meetings. The "controversy" pulled focus from the work that has been done so that the school district could finish the 2011 fiscal year with a $900,000 surplus.

A Hillsboro man who pleaded guilty to two charges related to child pornography has been sentenced to six years in prison.
  During the sentencing hearing in Highland County Common Pleas Court Wednesday, the defendant, Dana Jeter, 52, addressed the court, saying that he didn't understand an Internet file sharing program where he obtained the graphic images of children, and that "it wasn't my responsibility."
