Altrusa’s Books for All Kids Project reaches thousands of students

Books for all Kids is one of the major service projects for Altrusa of Highland County. The project began more than 20 years ago, providing books to students in just a few grade levels in county schools. As funding became available, additional grades levels were added.
In 2025 and 2026, Altrusa was able to provide a new book for every preschooler through fifth-grade student. This ambitious project requires extensive preparation, including ordering, sorting, stamping, counting, boxing and delivering the books.
Many Altrusa members volunteer their time to make the project possible.
This year, deliveries included 3,166 books for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and 705 books for preschoolers, for a total of 3,871 books.
Altrusa’s major annual fundraiser, the Quarter Raffle, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Hillsboro Orpheum. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and raffle begins at 6:30 p.m.
For pictures of some of the raffle prizes, follow Altrusa of Highland County on Facebook.
Proceeds from the Quarter Raffle, the monthly book sale and corporate donations provide funding for Altrusa’s service projects throughout the community. Altrusa greatly appreciates the community’s continued support, which helps make these projects possible.
