Fire causes damage to SR 73 home

An area home sustained significant damage, but no injuries were reported, after a fire broke out in a structure in the 6000 block of state Route 73.
According to Marc Bayless of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, the department received a call of a reported structure fire at 8:42 p.m. and crews arrived on scene at 8:46 p.m.
"When we arrived we had flames showing through the attic space and onto the roof," Bayless said. "It was the home, which is separate from the (structure that houses a business). The fire was contained to the attic, and the business (located in close proximity to the home) did not sustain any damage."
Bayless said the family was not at home when the fire began, but that they returned home to find it in flames.

[[In-content Ad]]"We had it under control in about 20 minutes," Bayless said. "There was a lot of overhaul and digging through the attic. We had to remove a dormer and roofing material. The upstairs sustained heavy damage, but the downstairs had just water damage. We were able to remove a lot of personal property."
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Bayless said the department will check with the National Weather Service on Wednesday to see if there was a lightening strike in the area at the time of the fire.
HFR received mutual aid from departments from Brush Creek, Marshal and from Franklin Township in Adams County. They were on the scene for more than three hours.
Departments from Leesburg and Lynchburg provided Hillsboro with station coverage.
"We had quick turnout on scene, and were good and quick in knocking it down," Bayless said.
