Highland Masonic Lodge No. 38 F&AM in Hillsboro paid tribute to 16 of its longtime members at its annual awards night on June 6 at their June meeting.

Hillsboro Garden Club President Jennifer West brought the May meeting to order with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Highland County Historical Society is honoring the late Jean Wallis in a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9 at the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church.

The Highland County Veterans Honor Guard hosted a mural dedication ceremony Friday, May 31 at the VFW Post 9094 on West Main Street in Hillsboro to show the Honor Guard's appreciation to the Hillsboro High School Art Club on a job well done. 

Major Thomas A. Payne, who retired from the United States Air Force after a 24-year career as both an enlisted airman and an officer, was the guest speaker at the 2024 Memorial Day observance at the Highland County Veterans Memorial.

Today's Word of the Day is allyship. A word I was happily ignorant of until a recent county commissioners' meeting. Whoever came up with "allyship" must be totally ignorant of the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” (Matthew 7:12). Enough said.
