By Steve Newby

The Hillsboro Elks Lodge served up 157 meals on Thanksgiving Day using an Elk's National Foundation Spotlight Grant for $2,000.
Fifteen Elks volunteered their time on Thanksgiving cooking and delivering meals to the city's first responders and people needing a helping hand to have a better holiday season.
Ten Elks donated desserts. Ponderosa and The Porch donated food. Another twp people anonymously donated a $100 each to support the day.
We delivered 45 meals to the hospital, nine to the fire department, eight to the police department, and 10 to the sheriff's department for people working the holiday.
Working with community action, churches, etc.m we had another 75 people in need come to the lodge for a great Thanksgiving meal.
They all went home with toilet paper and laundry detergent to help ease their financial burden this holiday season.
A huge special thanks to Smokin' Express Catering owned by Scott Askren for volunteering to smoke the turkey and ham for our event.
