The Hillsboro Elks Lodge served up 157 meals on Thanksgiving Day using an Elk's National Foundation Spotlight Grant for $2,000. Fifteen Elks volunteered their time on Thanksgiving cooking and delivering meals to the city's first responders and people needing a helping hand to have a better holiday season.
The Elks wrote and received a $4,000 grant from the grand lodge's Elks National Foundation. Half was spent on city park benches and picnic tables, and the other half donating toilet paper and paper towels the 937 Food Pantry.
Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361 recently wrote a $1,000 grant for the Highland County Sheriff's Office to purchase 14 tourniquets for the road officers to carry with them to treat accident victims who are bleeding before emergency medical personnel arrive.
