In a Hillsboro business, last week, I ran into Tom Gall. The Highland County Thunder 16-and-under baseball team ended their 2012 season this past weekend at Shaffer Park in the Tournament of Champions with a second-place finish, following a 4-0 loss to the Flash 16U team from Hamersville.

McClain High School and Greenfield Middle School will be hosting the mandatory OHSAA preseason meeting for all fall athletes and their parents on Thursday, Aug. 9. 

When the South Central Ohio League disbanded, McClain had replaced the SCOL teams with Vinton County, Western Brown, Oak Hill and Wellston in 1993. One of the biggest challenges the coaching staff would face would be learning whatever they could about these new opponents. The Tigers would open with Adena at home, a game that they could win with a good effort, but would travel to rugged Paint Valley for their second game.
