Lady Mustangs volleyball wins 3 of past 4 matches

Facing four opponents this past week, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs volleyball team faced one conference foe at home, while also facing three non-conference opponents away from their home gym.
LCHS gained wins over Bethel-Tate and West Union ,and they won part of a tri-match on Saturday by defeating Huntington, but they fell to Miami Trace.
On Monday, Sept. 28, the Lady Mustangs won at BTHS against Bethel-Tate in four sets. LCHS won sets two through four by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19. BTHS won set one at 25-23.
Senior Addy Carraher totaled two kills, 36 assists, two aces and 11 digs. Fellow senior Halle Greene totaled 15 kills, two aces and 13 digs.
LCHS senior Kylie O’Connor had 21 kills, one assist, three aces, 11 digs and one block. Senior Melany Stephenson had one kill, two assists, two aces and 31 digs. Fellow senior Jules Vesey finished with one assist, five aces and seven digs.
Junior Hydee Green totaled three kills, three aces, one dig and one block. Bre Rosselott, a junior, had one dig and two blocks. Junior Charlee Wildey finished with one assist.
Freshman Becca McLaughlin collected two kills and one dig. As a team the Lady Mustangs had 44 kills, 41 assists, 17 aces, 76 digs and four blocks.
On Friday, Oct. 2, LCHS won in three straight sets over the visiting West Union Lady Dragons by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-13.
For the match, Lynchburg-Clay finished with 36 kills, 36 assists, 10 aces, 75 digs and two blocks.
Carraher totaled two kills, 25 assists, one ace and 18 digs. Green finished with four kills, one assist, two aces and one dig.
Greene had seven kills, one ace and 10 digs. O’Connor ended the match with 14 kills, one assist, one ace and 13 digs. Rosselott finished with seven kills, five assists, two digs and two blocks.
Stephenson totaled one assist and 23 digs. Vesey had one kill, five aces and five digs. Wildey ended the match with one kill, two assists and three digs. Also in the match was senior Ashlynn Wilson.
Playing a tri-match at Huntington High School on Saturday, Oct. 3, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost to Miami Trace in two sets (best of three) and defeated Huntington in three sets.
In the loss to Miami Trace of the Frontier Athletic Conference, LC lost by scores of 25-21 and 25-18.
The match against Miami Trace saw the Lady Mustangs collect team totals of 10 kills, nine assists, seven aces, 31 digs and six blocks.
Wildey totaled one dig and one block. Teammate Vesey had one assist, one ace and one dig. Stephenson finished with one kill, one ace and 10 digs.
Rosselott had two kills, one assist, one ace and two blocks. O’Connor totaled three kills and four digs. Greene finished with three kills, one assist, one ace and eight digs. Green finished with one ace, two digs and two blocks. Carraher ended the match with one kill, six assists, two aces, five digs and one block.
Against Huntington in the second part of the tri-match, LCHS won against Huntington in three sets. Lynchburg-Clay won set two (25-15) and set three (26-24). HHS won the first set at 25-16.
For LCHS, Carraher finished the match with 18 assists, one ace and seven digs. Green totaled one kill, three aces and one dig.
Wildey finished the contest with one kill, while teammate Vesey had one ace and five digs. Greene ended with 10 digs, three aces and three digs. O’Connor totaled seven kills and eight digs. Stephenson collected one kill, one assist, three aces and 18 digs.
The match saw LCHS have team totals of 20 kills, 19 assists, 11 aces and 42 digs.
With the wins and one loss, the Lady Mustangs are now 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the SHAC Div. I standings.
Next for LCHS is a match with first-place implications as the Lady Mustangs will host the North Adams Lady Green Devils Wednesday at LCHS. NAHS is 9-1 in the SHAC Div. I standings.
