Hillsboro Indians fall in first 2 games to start ’23 season
The Hillsboro Indians opened the 2023 season on Monday with a loss to the Unioto Shermans at home, and on the following night they lost at home to the Circleville Tigers, both non-conference games.
On Tuesday, the Indians lost 13-8 to Circleville with HHS starting strong with a 5-0 lead after the first inning was completed. When the top of the third was finished, the Indians were trailing 7-5, as the Tigers scored seven runs in their half of that inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Indians added a run to their scoring, but in the top of the fifth Circleville achieved the same feat, taking an 8-6 lead.
Circleville scored four more runs in the top of the sixth, and one run in the top of the seventh, while the Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In all, Circleville totaled 13 runs, 11 hits and one error, while Hillsboro scored eight runs, had 10 hits and committed zero errors.
Bryce Parsons for HHS finished 2-for-3 with one run and a walk. Brayden Hunter was 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a walk.
Having one hit each for the Indians were Nic Burns (1-for-3, a double, one run, one walk), Korbin Adams (1-for-4, two runs, one steal), Travis Ross (1-for-3, one run, one RBI, one walk), Ovid Wilson (1-for-2), Evan Fender (1-for-3) and Thompson (1-for-3).
The loss on the mound went to Ben Miller, who struck out three batters. Also pitching for the Indians were Peyton Aber, Burns and Hunter (one strikeout).
On Monday, the Indians lost to visiting Unioto 22-0 where the Indians finished the game with one hit, coming off the bat of Will Hart.
Next for Hillsboro (0-2) is a non-conference game on Thursday, March 30 at home against Clinton-Massie at 5 p.m.
