Winkle wins FAC cross-country championship
Hillsboro’s Corbin Winkle was the winner of the 2024 Frontier Athletic Conference championship Saturday morning at HHS.
Winkle is now a three-time consecutive FAC cross-country champion, winning Saturday with a championship time of 15:41.00.
Hillsboro also had two more runners finishing in the Top 8, with Rason Brunck placing seventh overall with a time of 17:09.00 and Chris Sowders placing eighth overall with a time of 17:10.00.
HHS had Cooper Swope finish in 18th place at 19:15.00, Trenton Gulley was 29th place overall at 20:36.00, and Jayden Wells finished in 31st place at 20:57.00.
As a team, the Indians were second place in the FAC with a team time of 1:29:51.00, with a score of 61.
Winning the FAC was Chillicothe with a time of 1:24:48.00, as they had a score of 25.
In third place was Jackson with a 63 score (1:30:49.00), and Washington was fourth place, having a score of 87 (1:34:43.00). Miami Trace was fifth place with a 132 score (1:43:21.00), and in sixth place was McClain with a 170 score (2:00:54.00).
For McClain, Dart Stovall was 23rd place at 19:46.00, followed by Nicholas Alvarez at 22:24.00 and Zander Lyons at 25:17.00.
Next for MHS were Jesse Van Hoose at 25:38.00 and Avery Truman with a time of 27:49.00.
In the girls FAC championship event, Miami Trace won with a score of 36, followed by Chillicothe (45), Hillsboro (60) and Jackson (77). Washington and McClain didn’t have a team score.
Hillsboro’s Taylor Thoroman was fourth place overall ay 21:49.00, and in sixth place was Abbey Letts at 21:58.00. HHS had three runners in the Top 10, as Olivia Covault was 10th place with a time of 22:49.00.
Alizeh Hudson finished in 19th place at 24:38.00, and in 21st place was Kennedy Sexton at 24:42.00. HHS also had Brynne Holsted finish 26th at 25:12.00, and Claire Winkle was 31st at 26:31.00.
McClain’s scores included Laura Barber in 27th place at 25:14.00. Next for MHS were Ashley Mitchell (29:38.00), Bailey Mitchell (29:54.00) and Vada Ponder (30:50.00).
