Golf Report: Local players compete in district tournaments

Fairfield’s Fauber ties for 16th at D3 Districts

On Oct. 3, Fairfield junior Brody Fauber competed in the Division III SE District boys golf tournament at the Elks Country Club in McDermott.

Fauber finished in a five-way tie for 16th place overall with an 18-hole score of 87, with scores of 43 and 44 for the event.

Winning the district individual championship was Valley senior Cameron Phillips with a score of 67, who later went on to win the state tournament.

Fauber was one of six juniors to place in the Top 16 at districts and one of 10 players who were a junior or sophomore in the event to place in the Top 16.

Hillsboro’s Kelch 19th at D1 Districts

The Hillsboro Indians had one golfer from the boys team playing at the Division I Districts (East) on Monday, Oct. 7 at the EagleSticks Golf Club, that being sophomore Conner Kelch.

Kelch finished tied for 19th place overall with a score of 85, carding scores of 40 and 45 in the event. Kelch was tied with freshman Keaton Mace of Marietta.

Winning the district title was Steubenville junior Christopher Elliott with a score of 74.

Kelch was one of 12 sophomore or juniors to place in the Top 19 of the event.

McClain’s Kaylin Sterling finishes 13th at D1 Districts

On Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the EagleSticks Golf Club, McClain junior Kaylin Sterling participated in the Division I District (East) Golf Tournament.

Sterling finished tied for 13th place overall in a field of 48 golfers. Sterling carded a score of 92 in 18 holes, with nine-hole scores of 47 and 45.

The district champion was Dover senior Mya Downing with a 76 overall score (39, 37).

Sterling was one of eight juniors to place in the Top 13 at the East District event.
