It will be held on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fincastle Campus of Southern State Community College located at 12681 U.S. 62, 1.5 miles north of state Route 32, or 18 miles south of Hillsboro. Admission is free.

    Marine Corps Pvt. Joshua S. Thomas, son of Phyllis and Paul Kneipp of Hillsboro, Ohio, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.
  • SSCC Theatre to present comedy 'The Foreigner'
    “Don’t expect Jojo the Jungle Boy,” so explains Froggy as he sets in motion a series of uproarious events that puts his shy, humdrum friend in the middle of unusual circumstances in Larry Shue’s comedy “The Foreigner” playing March 5-7 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The show will begin at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, with a 3:30 p.m. Sunday matinee.
  • Cookie lovers - it's that time of year again!
    It’s time for the Girl Scouts annual cookie sale. Throughout January, Girl Scouts throughout Highland County took orders for their eight varieties of cookies available only from Girl Scouts. Those cookies will be delivered in March, but don’t despair if you missed the girls; more cookies will be available to purchase directly at various locations where girls will be staffing booths throughout the area starting February 26.

    Senior Center elections held
    The Highland County Senior Center Board of Directors has elected officers for 2010. Terry Mull will serve as president, Rosalie Morgan as vice president, Lynn Neal as secretary and Jane Moore as treasurer.

      Local artist Gretchen Huffman was recently commissioned by a group of pool players at the Highland County Senior Center to paint a picture of them around the pool table, where they gather every weekday. The finished work was presented to the group this week.
