  • Church hosts Jan. 9 concert series

    The Serenity in Christian Union Church will host its Serenity Concert Series
    at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at the church, 237 S. High St., Hillsboro.
  • Perez receives second Daisy Award
    Wilmington, Ohio -- Dawn Perez of Wilmington, a registered nurse in the Clinton Memorial Hospital Surgery Center, received the second DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses given at CMH Regional Health System. The award, presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform everyday.

  • Books donated to Hillsboro library
    Shadow Roosa, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, donated several books on the American Civil War to the Highland County District Library.  The Sons of Confederate Veterans is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers.  Membership is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.  For information on the local chapter, call 937-402-8273.
  • New Vienna church presents 'The Christmas Guest'
    The New Vienna Community Church welcomes the public to the presentation of the Christmas play, "The Christmas Guest" at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. The church is located at 412 West Street in New Vienna. The play will be followed by a traditional candlelight service. The evening will conclude with refreshments provided by some of the cast.

    St. Benignus Catholic Church in Greenfield will be offering free and delicious Christmas dinners to those in need.  They are available for pickup or delivery on Christmas day from noon-3 p.m. at the church on 218 S. 2nd St.

    Hillsboro Emblem Club members enjoyed their annual Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Dinner was prepared by Elinor Cornelius, Sandra Martin, and Emilie Dunnagan. Dessert was provided by Mystic Retreat from Bainbridge and consisted of their fabulous cheesecake.

    The gloomy weather this week serves as a reminder that winter weather is just around the corner. You have heard me often complain about shorter daylight hours during this time of year.  However, there is a bright side to the increased hours of darkness. It gives us a chance to admire the Christmas displays and lights in the area that serve to brighten up those long hours of darkness.  Christmas shopping ads remind us that the clock is ticking for purchasing those gifts for those special someones.

    The Ladies Auxiliary held their monthly meeting Dec. 1. Two new members were sworn in. The next 10 members to send in their dues will be in a drawing for 2010 dues to be paid.
  • HealthSource Hillsboro Health Center Offering Medicaid Enrollment Assistance
    HealthSource Hillsboro Health Center located at 104 Erin Court in Hillsboro will be offering free assistance to individuals who may be eligible for Medicaid on Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 3-5 p.m.  An employee will be on hand to assist in completing the application and will be available to answer questions regarding Medicaid benefits.
