Fifteen years ago this month – in late August 2009 – it was announced that the newly formed Cameco Communications, LLC had acquired The Highland County Press from William Latham and the Sun Publishing Group. My wife, Pam, named the company “Cameco” from the first two letters of our children’s Irish names, Caitlin, Meghan and Colin.

Under the Biden-Harris administration, there have been 10 million illegal border crossings, the most ever recorded in U.S. history. Vice President Harris has taken no decisive steps to close our southern border and has put millions of American lives in danger.

August is one of the busiest times of year with parents gearing up to send their children back to school. It’s a time of excitement though, with the promise of new beginnings and fresh routines. The Mullin family is all too familiar with this season, as we now have three kids in college and three in middle and high schools in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, this back to school season is a grim reminder for most of how tough the Biden-Harris economy is for working families.

Ever since early 2021, Americans have watched as illegal aliens have flooded across the Southwest border unimpeded. They have read with horror the accounts of innocent Americans victimized by those here unlawfully. They have seen family and friends die after being poisoned by fentanyl coming across the border. And the Biden-Harris administration has largely done nothing.

After that phone call I received five days after Mom’s birthday, I made the drive I made every day for a while, and when I got there, Mom looked so peaceful. I sat down beside her just as I did countless times before. As I quietly sat there, I noticed a window was open and a breeze and the "Happy Birthday" balloons were gently swaying. The cards were still lined up and the flowers were still in bloom. I saw her Bible beside her bed. I opened it right to where there was a card, and she had written on that card, “Heavenly Father, I thank you for the victory I have in you. You are my refuge, my strength and my reward. All I need is in you.” Amen. The best birthday gift anyone could have.

Democrats were running on “Biden Time” the first night of the Democratic National Convention, which is to say they were significantly behind schedule, and so the president himself was pushed almost entirely out of prime time – a final indignity beyond his control.

True to form, the normally fenceless, no ID Democrats have not one, but two fences around the United Center and you must show ID to get in. Totally opposite the policies they take toward our southern border and voter ID.

God's purpose for you is to live your life in Heaven. Give honor to God now by believing in His Son who will hand over to you eternal life. Then Jesus will hand over to you His Spirit of peace.

What Matthews tries to obfuscate is that under Biden, the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, Iran-backed Hamas invaded Israel, Russia invaded Ukraine, and China became more aggressive in the western Pacific, threatening both Taiwan and the Philippines. This is not a record of “remarkable achievement.” It almost makes Jimmy Carter look good by comparison.

Horrible times do come, but He has promised His friends that He will be there. To never abandon us.

She has come for her annual visit to the creek valley. She usually arrives when the heat and humidity settle uncomfortably over the fields and woods, but with thanks to her, I look forward to this time of year.

Critics of Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' proposal to control food and pharmaceutical inflation by enacting government-enforced price controls at grocery stores and drug stores say it would backfire, leading to supply shortages and increased inflation. Harris on Friday unveiled her plan to go after what she called “price gauging” (sic) at grocery stores and to cap the costs of certain prescription medications.

The two Republican lawmakers, who serve in key Judiciary Committee roles in the Senate and the House, cited revelations from a RealClearPolitics article last week that former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and senior agency leaders sought to destroy the cocaine discovered in the White House last summer. Despite the push, leaders of the Forensics Services and the Uniformed Divisions rejected efforts to dispose of the evidence and presumably are keeping the bag of cocaine in a Secret Service evidence vault.

Now Kamala Harris has come out with price controls, allegedly to stop inflation. They didn’t work for Nixon; in fact, they caused inflation. They haven’t worked for New York City (rent controls), going back to just after World War II. It is not surprising she (or her handlers) came up with these. After all, not that many columns ago I remarked that governments are the only legal monopolies. Price controls are like monopolies; hence, what government employees understand.
