A man scheduled to be released from prison after serving approximately 25 years on sex-related crimes is suing Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward, after Ward denied his request to move into a residence located in close proximity to a school.

The Twelfth District Court of Appeals denied a man's attempt to withdraw the guilty plea he made in 2005 to a Fayette County felony charge of trafficking in drugs.

SSCC votes to implement 7-percent tuition increase

In a split vote, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees voted to implement a 7-percent increase in tuition - its first increase in four years. Some board members said the move is to be fiscally responsible for the future of the institution, while others said it will be a hardship to students.

Council considers leasing building for police storage

The Hillsboro City Council considered a lease agreement proposed by Hillsboro Safety and Service Director Ralph Holt for a structure for storage of police department property during their regular session May 10. After council stalled in making a decision, Holt said that he would lease the building on a month-to-month basis.

Throckmorton sentenced to five years on meth charge

A Paint Township man who was arrested in March after he was allegedly discovered with a meth lab in his home during a visit from Highland County Children Services has pleaded guilty to an amended charge, and was sentenced to five years in prison.
