  • Refinancing could save HCS more than $400,000
    After hearing a presentation from a representative from RBC Capital Markets, the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education voted to approve a resolution authorizing the district to proceed with potential refinancing of a 2001 bond issue  a move district representatives said could save taxpayers up to nearly half a million dollars.

    The pending sale on the city of Hillsboro's former safety building will advance Friday when the city opens bids for the structure's sale. Bids on the North High Street building will be accepted until 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the mayor's office, when the bids will be opened.

    The Greenfield Neighborhood Watch will be staging the Greenfield Medieval Faire on Oct. 23. The Faire will look to bring alive once again the days of knights, armor, shields, castles, swords, Robin Hood, prisoners in stocks, catapults though costumed actors and displays. The Faire will attempt to be historically authentic and recreate events in medieval England between the years 1066 and 1611.

  • Hillsboro residents will see a 5-percent increase to water bill
    Hillsboro residents will see a scheduled increase of 5 percent to their water bills beginning in October. 
    "Our water fund, for several years now, has been in desperate need of increases, that they have not had" Dave Shoemaker, chairperson of the Hillsboro City Council's utilities committee, told The Highland County Press. "When we established the water increases, we established them to go forward. We are going to go ahead with the 5-percent increase in water. We are going to have to also be looking at sewer (rate increases)."

    National POW/MIA Recognition Day 2010 will be observed at the Chillicothe Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center with a formal ceremony in the Building 9 auditorium beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 17, to honor and remember those who were prisoners of war (POWs) or are listed as missing in action.

  • Council meets for nearly an hour in executive session on township fire contracts
    The Hillsboro City Council met for nearly an hour in executive session Monday regarding pending contracts for fire services between the city and surrounding townships. However, no discussions regarding the matter took place in open session, and no votes were taken.
