  • HCS elects new officers at organizational meeting

    The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education re-elected Laura Bagshaw as board president and Sam Barnhouse as vice president during the organizational meeting held Monday.
     The board met in the library of Hillsboro High School, where the regular monthly meetings will be held during 2011. Immediately following the vote on officers, Bagshaw and Barnhouse were sworn in by treasurer Debbie Lawwell.

    The Highland County Comprehensive Reentry Initiative will benefit the community by reducing recidivism, creating jobs, and enhancing the overall quality of life so vital to economic development. The local economy is already benefiting from the Day Reporting Program currently offered through the Hillsboro Municipal Court.

  • Mikkelsen announces bid for Hillsboro mayor's office
    While the future for the city of Hillsboro may seem a difficult path, one candidate for the office of Hillsboro mayor says the future is simple: Bring pride back to Hillsboro.
     Terry Mikkelsen, a Republican, has taken out petitions to run for the office of Hillsboro mayor, and he said he will work on "removing the barrier between government and the community, making the label of Democrat and Republican irrelevant, (and) building up our community and bringing us back together as one - Hillsboro.

  • Wilkin appointed commission president WATCH THE VIDEO
    The Highland County Board of Commissioners met for their organizational meeting Monday, and re-elected Shane Wilkin as board president.
     Commissioner Tom Horst made a motion that Wilkin remain as president, and that Horst remain as vice president. Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer seconded the motion, which was passed 3-0.

  • Kasich takes oath as Ohio's 69th governor
    In a ceremony in the Ohio Senate chamber where he began his political career as a state senator in 1979 at the age of 26, John R. Kasich took the oath of office at 12:08 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10 and became the 69th governor of the state of Ohio.

    Matt Carle will serve as director of legislative affairs where he will help develop the governor’s policy agenda and secure its support in the General Assembly. Carle also will work with Cabinet directors on legislative issues in state agencies.
