  • HCSCA Ernie Blankenship Telethon set for March 27
    The 2013 telethon will be 6-10 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Merchants National Bank in Hillsboro and McClain High School in Greenfield. This year's telethon – the 41st annual – will surpass the $3 million plateau in local contributions. Through its first 40 years, the telethon has raised $2,972,581 for area families. Pledges may be mailed to: HCSCA, P.O.   • Richard Ross to lead Ohio Department of Education
    Dr. Richard A. Ross has been named the new state superintendent of Public Instruction. Ross accepted his oath of office at a special swearing-in ceremony during his first official day on the job.

  • Rocky Fork Lake cleanup a monthlong project
    Commissioners Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst proclaimed April as "Clean Up, Fix Up and Pick Up Month" at Rocky Fork Lake at the Wednesday board meeting. Paint Township Trustee Randy Mustard, and lake area residents and Rocky Fork Lake Community Alliance members Margie Brunner, Dan Cowdrey, Bill Dalton, Sally Hinton and Jerry Hinton were present to accept the proclamation.
  • First Highland County Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration planned for March 29
    The first annual Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration in Highland County is set for Friday, March 29 at the Highland County Veterans Service Office, 135 N. High St., in uptown Hillsboro. Highland County commissioners and Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings signed a proclamation for the event at the Wednesday county commission meeting.

  • Farm Bureau leaders meet with lawmakers

    Highland County Vice President Nathan Brown recently attended the Ohio Farm Bureau’s annual county presidents trip to Washington, D.C. Participants from all 87 county Farm Bureaus started the trip out by converging on the Capitol Hill Club where they were updated by American Farm Bureau staff on current legislation such as the Farm Bill, immigration, water quality, and the Affordable Care Act.

  • Commissioners seek to reduce county's debt on Leesburg Industrial Park
    A proposal that could save Highland County more than a quarter of a million dollars was introduced Wednesday by Highland County Commissioner Shane Wilkin. Wilkin met recently in Columbus with the Ohio Development Services Agency regarding the county's outstanding debt related to bonds on the Leesburg Industrial Park.
