    Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte will hold a meet and greet on Thursday, July 5 at Merchants Bank in Hillsboro during the 2012 Festival of the Bells.

    The theme "Summer of Love" had a resemblance to Woodstock Saturday afternoon as thunderstorms forced some last-minute changes to the grand opening celebration of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, but cyclists and organizers did not let the rain dampen their spirits or enthusiasm.

        With the roar of a hundred engines, the 31st annual KAMP Dovetail jumped into gear Monday, and the roads through Rocky Fork Lake State Park were transformed into Bike Week at Sturgis.

        The annual weeklong Kids And Motivated People (KAMP) gives children and young adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to camp out and to participate in summertime activities such as fishing, horseback riding and swimming.
    
    With this year's "Bike Week" theme, area biker groups revved up their Harleys to show their support.
  • Highland County commemorates War of 1812
    Members of the Highland County community commemorated the 200th anniversary of the declaration of the War of 1812 on Monday, at the Veterans Memorial outside the Highland County Courthouse.
    
    Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst read a proclamation from the Highland County Board of Commissioners stating that during the three-year war, "to the citizens of Ohio, this war was personal.
    

"Ohio was the front line during the early years of the war and the scene of major battles. Ohio was the battleground where men fought and died to defend their country, their homes and their families. Today, as we commend their deeds, we also bear a heavy burden of responsibility to ensure that their sacrifices will not have been in vain."

  • Georgetown man charged with resisting arrest

        A Georgetown man was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and public indecency over the weekend after he allegedly exposed himself at the Highland Terrace Apartments.
        According to a release by the Hillsboro Police Department, on Sunday, June 17, the department responded to a call from the apartments, located in the 700 block of North West Street, "in reference to a male subject exposing himself. The subject had previously been barred from the property."

    The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred Sunday, June 17 just outside Leesburg. The crash occurred on Bridges Road just south of Centerfield Road outside of Leesburg.

  • Missing cash in Leesburg police evidence room reported in state audit
    Nearly $3,000 was identified as missing from the Village of Leesburg (Highland County) police evidence room in an audit report released by Auditor of State Dave Yost. The resulting investigation led to the June 5 indictment of former Leesburg police officer Duane Bussey on charges of theft and tampering with evidence, according to Yost.
  • Smith arrested on armed robbery charge
        A Greenfield man charged in the first-degree felony armed robbery of a local gas station has been arrested.

        Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester said the suspect, Levi Smith, was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
