The lawn of the Highland County Courthouse was packed with chanting, hugging people Friday afternoon, as the community rallied together with Anna's Army to bring awareness and raise funds toward finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

    The third Friday in April is proclaimed Anna's Army Day by the Highland County Commissioners, and the army was out in full force. April 20 was the fourth annual Anna's Army Day.

The finance committee of the Hillsboro City Council has voted to table a request from the Highland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau for a larger percentage of the "bed tax" the city collects from local hotels. However, committee members say they are open to increasing the funds once they have a better picture of the city's overall finances for 2012.
 The committee met Thursday in the meeting room of the Hillsboro fire station, and heard from HCCVB director Bob Lambert.

As they have now for the three months in a row, the family members and supporters of a Hillsboro City Schools employee currently on administrative leave asked the district's board of education to reinstate the educator. Some supporters acknowledged that many of the facts and allegations surrounding the case are not known to the public, but they feel it is in the best interest of Hillsboro students for the matter to come to a resolution.

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid today reversed its decision to withhold Medicare payments for inpatient services at the Adena Medical Center, which would have gone into effect April 27.

Highland County Prosecuting Attorney Anneka Collins' Victim/Witness Program will observe the week with their third annual candlelight vigil on Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m., in the basement of Hillsboro Church of Christ, 155 W. Walnut Street.

As the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities continues to keep a watchful eye on its 2012 budget, a recent report states that staff are looking for ways to rein in expenses while increasing revenue opportunities.

    During the board's monthly meeting on Tuesday, board business director Lori Moore submitted quarterly a report and review of expenditures. The report gave comparisons of 2011 and 2012 expenditures, along with 2011 and 2012 income.
