On May 7 at 1:28 p.m., the Highland County Sheriff's Office responded to a motorcycle crash with injury on state Route 124 and Lilly Road. At 2:08 p.m., the Highland County Sheriff's Office received a call of a second motorcycle crash with injury on state Route 136 at the Sorg and Clark Road intersection.

A reported bomb threat leading Ohio State Highway Patrol officers and a bomb squad to evacuate the Rhodes Tower building, located near the Ohio Statehouse, and to shut down a portion of Broad Street, has ended, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Local and statewide emergency crews searched Rocky Fork Creek for over an hour Sunday afternoon after receiving a report of an alleged overturned kayak. However, following search and investigation, it is not believed that a person was actually missing in the water.

    Chief Bradley George of the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, and Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward said that crews responded to the areas of Seven Caves and the Highland Nature Sanctuary after receiving a report that a kayaker may have overturned into the rain-swollen creek at approximately 3:45 p.m.

More than 1,200 medical professionals last year took advantage of educational programs at the PACCAR Medical Education Center – a record for the facility, which is becoming a destination for health care professionals.

State Route 131 in Brown County is now closed between U.S. 50 and U.S. 68 due to flooding, the Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 reported. In addition, S.R. 93, S.R. 139 and S.R. 140 in Jackson County remain closed due to high water.

     The legal counsel for the Hamer Township Board of Trustees has submitted a letter of intent to the city of Hillsboro giving notice that they will be terminating their contract for EMS and fire services, stating they want "stability, which the city of Hillsboro cannot offer." 
     Hamer is one of five townships that contracted with the city in 2012 for the EMS and fire protection services, including Liberty, New Market, Jackson and Washington townships.

     The trustees had an open meeting Thursday evening at the township building, located at 4844 state Route 138 near Danville, seeking public comment from area residents regarding the future of EMS and fire protection services.

     Trustees Nathan Mootz, Tom Leininger and Jon Holbrook, fiscal officer Kim Walker and township counsel Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins explained the township's history [see sidebar] of contracting with the city of Hillsboro for those services and how there will be a permanent change by at least 2013.
