For the second time this season, the Fairfield Lady Lions gained a win over Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival Whiteoak, this time winning by a 75-27 score.

Following a season where his Whiteoak Wildcats played in the Division IV State Semifinals, Whiteoak baseball head coach Chris Veidt was recently selected as the 2018 National High School Baseball Coaches Association Region 4 Coach of the Year.

From start to finish, the Fairfield Lady Lions controlled all aspects of their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game Thursday night, defeating Highland County rival Whiteoak, 81-9 to move to the .500 mark on the season.

The 2018-19 Southern Hills Athletic Conference boys basketball preview was held on Friday night at Ripley High School, as all 10 boys basketball teams took part in the annual preseason event.

It was a new attitude and a new era for the Whiteoak Wildcats last season under first-year head coach Blake Kibler, and what a one-year turnaround it was for the team from Mowrystown. Last year, the Wildcats went from a team that hadn’t had a winning record in four seasons to a team that finished two wins over the .500 mark, with their first winning record since going 12-11 in the 2012-13 season.

Last season, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats welcomed back veteran head coach Steve Smith to lead the program once again. Though the results weren’t what they had hoped, some experience was gained, and that brings them to the 2018-19 season, where the Lady Wildcats look to take another step forward in the long rebuild of their program.

Lynchburg-Clay senior Jonah Fenner bowled a perfect 300 game on Monday in the 2018 season opener.

The annual Southern Hills Athletic Conference Girls Basketball Preview was held at Peebles High School this past Friday night. All 10 teams participated in the preseason event, as each of the five games were two quarters in length.
