The Daily Press Pass: Hillsboro plays team basketball in win; SHAC girls games resume Thursday

Tuesday night was an excellent night of high school basketball for the Hillsboro Indians boys basketball team, as it seemed from my view that it was the best game the team played up to this point of the schedule.
The Indians won over the host Fairfield Lions by a 64-43 score, and what stood out for the Indians is how well they played team basketball. Indians head coach Bruce Miles took notice of that as well, as he spoke about that fact following Tuesday’s win:
“It was a total team effort, without a doubt,” Miles said. “The gym was packed. It’s a great rival and our county rival, so I was extremely pleased with the way our guys handled themselves tonight, took care of the basketball, executed our game plan and we were able to come out on top. I’m extremely proud of our guys and the effort we had tonight.”

In the win, the Indians had four players with double-figure scoring with Brad Miller battling in the paint for 16 points to lead the Indians, followed by Mason Swayne with 14 points, Gavin Temple with 12 points and Ryan Scott with 12 points.
Not only that, but the Indians showed just how good of a team they are when everything goes their way and everything goes as planned. Though the Indians play in a tough Frontier Athletic Conference game on Friday, this win could be a stepping stone for the remainder of the season as they showed what type of team basketball they can play.
Even though the Lions didn’t have the game they wanted and the outcome didn’t go their way, they are still one of the more exciting team-centric rosters I enjoy watching, too.
This wasn’t the best game of the season for the Lions, but the great thing about basketball is there is another game every few days, and Friday night they get to host another Highland County rival, Lynchburg-Clay, at Grandle Gymnasium.
Fairfield in their loss to the Indians still saw Sam Buddelmeyer finish with 18 points, James Bentley with 11 points and Wyatt Willey with 10 points.
It will be fun to see the Lions get back on the court this Friday night with what should be another exciting Highland County basketball game atmosphere.

After a couple games for Highland County teams were postponed on Wednesday, Thursday brings a new day for high school basketball, and for the SHAC, that means all 10 teams will be in conference games this evening.
Lynchburg-Clay looks to rebound from their lone loss of the season from earlier in the week with a home game against Ripley. LCHS is 9-0 in the SHAC and 13-1 overall.
Right beside LCHS is Eastern Brown at 8-0 in the SHAC, and they have a competitive game in front of them tonight with a home game vs. North Adams, who are third in the SHAC (Division I) at 5-3 with NA’s conference losses to Eastern and two by Lynchburg-Clay.
From the way the results have been thus far this season, the two games that have yet to be played with LCHS and Eastern will determine which team is the best in the SHAC Division I standings.
Another competitive game for Division II of the SHAC tonight is Fairfield hosting Fayetteville with the Lady Lions being 3-5 in the SHAC and Fayetteville being also being 3-5 in the conference. These two teams faced each other on Monday, Dec. 3, when Fairfield won over the Lady Rockets (in Fayetteville) by a 67-57 score.
This should be a good night of SHAC girls basketball and one that will help sort out the standings just a little bit more as games continue in January.
