In a dazzling display of community support, the annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Holiday Ball unfolded Saturday, Dec. 9 at The Hillsboro Orpheum, leaving attendees inspired and the Foundation enriched with funds for its important initiatives.

Though the Hillsboro Lady Indians played a stellar first half, including a 9-0 run to start the game Wednesday night, the Jackson Ironladies battled back and had a fourth-quarter rally in the final four minutes that sent them past Hillsboro in their Frontier Athletic Conference game, with Hillsboro falling 44-35.

The Hillsboro Utilities Committee will hold a meeting Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, located at 130 North High Street, Hillsboro.

After weeks of discussion, Highland County commissioners Terry Britton, David Daniels and Brad Roades officially voted Dec. 13 to approve a proposed tax levy for Highland County Children Services to appear on the March primary ballot.

On three occasions Tuesday night, the Hillsboro Indians held a lead of nine points on their home court against the visiting Miami Trace Panthers.

On Thursday, Dec. 21, there will be a Food for All Mobile Pantry at the Greater Life Assembly Church, 12145 North Shore Drive, Hillsboro. Food will be distributed from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

After hearing Melissa Norris take the stand in her own defense Tuesday on the second day of a trial in Highland County Common Pleas Court, a jury of six men and six women deliberated for four hours before finding Norris guilty of murder.

A Hillsboro man has been indicted by a Highland County grand jury on five charges, including a first-degree felony charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The final outreach session of the year for the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.

Prosecutors presented evidence in the opening day of the murder trial against Melissa Norris of Hillsboro Monday, Dec. 11 in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
