City accepts township counterproposal on fire, EMS contracts; votes to extend negotiations for firefighters, police
The city of Hillsboro has voted to accept a counterproposal from area townships for an 18-percent increase for fire services, with the condition EMS services be provided at no additional charge through 2011.
 During the 20-minute long special council meeting it was also decided to extend negotiations for wages and salaries for the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Firefighters.

Homeless shelter receives grant for $53,200
This Thanksgiving, the organizers and residents of the Highland County Homeless Shelter have one more reason to be thankful.
 The Ohio Department of Development has announced that the shelter is among 76 organizations that have received more than $20 million in grant funds from the Homeless Assistance Grant Program, with $53,200 going to the local shelter.
Highland County jobless rate holds at 14.4 percent
Highland County's unemployment rate is holding at 14.4 percent for the second month in a row.
 Ranked with the second highest rate in the state, behind Clinton County at 15.8 percent, Highland County's jobless rate had been on decline in recent months, but according to numbers released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services for the month of October, the number is holding steady.
