The Whiteoak Wildcats like to keep things close thus far this basketball season. In fact, a third-quarter scoring outburst by senior Joe Michael, along with a tough effort against the Eastern Brown Warriors in the final frame, gave the Wildcats their third straight Southern Hills League victory.

Heartland of Hillsboro nursing home has a new administrator who said she is looking forward to continuing quality care in a town that she says feels like home.
 Sandy Leedy began serving as the administrator at Heartland in November. She has worked in the field for 16 years.

A Lees Creek woman was killed Friday afternoon in a two-car crash on state Route 72 near the intersection of state Route 729, according to the Wilmington Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol. A Hillsboro man was also injured in the crash.

Betty June (Leonard) Hogle, 76, of Greenfield, died Dec. 16, 2010 at the Hearth & Care Nursing Home in Greenfield.

Students riding a bus to school escaped injury following a crash that broke the axle of a Lynchburg-Clay School bus after it was struck by a car on icy roadways Friday. However, one person riding in the car was transported for injuries.
 L-C Superintendent Greg Hawk told The Highland County Press that the bus was traveling in the early morning hours on state Route 134.

Bond was set at $75,000 for an area resident charged with shooting a Hillsboro man in the face.
 Jimmie Jacobs, of Hillsboro, was arrested earlier this week on one charge of felonious assault after he allegedly shot Jonathan Harris, 28, of Hillsboro at J and J Automotive, where Harris lives.

The New Petersburg Social Civic Club met at the Rainsboro United Methodist Church at noon for their Christmas meeting. The officers were the hostesses, and the tables were decorated in a holiday theme.
