Lees Creek woman killed in SR 72 crash; Hillsboro man injured
A Lees Creek woman was killed Friday afternoon in a two-car crash on state Route 72 near the intersection of state Route 729, according to the Wilmington Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol. A Hillsboro man was also injured in the crash.
According to the Post, at approximately 2:16 p.m. a 2002 Buick four-door, driven by Wanda Early-Meshefski, 58, of Lees Creek, was traveling westbound on state Route 729. A 2009 Dodge pickup truck driven by Zachary Campbell, 20, of Hillsboro, was southbound on state Route 72.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Early-Meshefski failed to yield from a stop sign and pulled into the path of Campbell's vehicle. The Buick was struck in the passenger side door and both vehicles traveled off the right side of state Route 72 through a wire fence and into a field.
Early-Meshefski was pronounced dead at the Clinton Memorial Hospital shortly after arriving there. Campbell received injury, but declined to be transported to a hospital, according to the Post.
Seat belts were in use at the time of the crash by both drivers, the Post said. This incident remains under investigation.
