Wildcats win emotionally charged OT game against Lions

There were times Tuesday night at Grandle Gymnasium where emotions were high. There were also times where the outcome of the basketball game was the last thing on the minds of fans at Fairfield High School. But once the final seconds of overtime ticked off the scoreboard, it was the Whiteoak Wildcats who were the winners, defeating the Fairfield Lions, 55-49, for the Southern Hills League win.

Council passes temporary appropriations ordinance; area resident questions health insurance increases
The Hillsboro City Council passed the annual temporary appropriations ordinance during their regular session Monday, which appropriated funds for "current expenses and other expenditures" to get the city through the first part of 2011.
 The annual legislation was introduced by Hillsboro City Auditor Gary Lewis.

The city of Hillsboro may consider additions to the Hillsboro Police Department to keep up with attrition and municipal codes, after several Hillsboro residents spoke out about a perceived lack of police presence in the city.
 During Monday's regular session of the Hillsboro City Council, residents who live in the area of Tower Drive and Collins Avenue addressed council on increased criminal activity they have witnessed, and their efforts to start a community watch.
Tiger wrestling places 8th in Div. I tournament
On Dec. 11, the McClain wrestling team stepped up their level of competition by traveling to the Xenia Invitational.
Donation made to Farmers and Hunters Feeding Hungry
The Highland County Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited donated $250 to Farmers and Hunters Feeding Hungry to pay processing for donated deer – which, once processed – is then distributed to local food pantries.

'Pygmalion' auditions Jan. 7 at Southern State
SSCC Theatre will host auditions for the upcoming production “Pygmalion” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. “Pygmalion” will be directed by Rainee Angles and performed March 4-6, 2011, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium.
Brown County Master Gardeners to visit SSCC's South Campus
The Brown County Master Gardeners will present “Planning the Garden” 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
