“At a time when our nation’s unemployment remains stubbornly high, the Administration should be working to level the playing field for American workers, farmers and businesses, including taking stronger measures to stop China currency manipulation which unfairly increases the cost of our exports to China and decreases the costs of their exports to the United States,” Sen. Governor John R. Kasich has announced that the state will commit $750,000 in State Assistance to individuals impacted by the flash flooding that occurred May 10-11, 2011 in Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton counties.

In 2010, approximately 31 different black bears were confirmed in the Buckeye State according to the ODNR Division of Wildlife. While the population of Ohio’s largest mammal, a state endangered species, may not exactly increase in 2011, sightings of the burly creatures are expected to rise in the summer months.
“The rains have caused a tremendous hardship on farmers who are unable to get into the fields to plant or safely apply fertilizer and manure,” said Ted Lozier, chief of the Division of Soil & Water Resources. Lozier said that as a result of the heavy rains some manure storage facilities are near capacity. Recognizing that an overflow could have an environmental impact on waterways, the division is offering limited financial assistance to qualifying operators.
