Senate Bill 5 was a main topic of discussion during the Highland County Democratic Party's spring dinner, held Tuesday at the Highland County Administration Building. Highland County Democratic Party Chairperson Dinah Phillips said there were more than 100 people in attendance, including many new faces who turned out to discuss SB 5 and the impact the pending legislation will have on their lives and families. The featured speaker of the event was former Hamilton County Commissioner and former candidate for Ohio Auditor David Pepper.
Hillsboro Fire Chief Jerry Powell said that a lightning strike is a suspected cause of a fire that began in the Koogler Law Office, spreading smoke to other other businesses in the 100 block of North High Street in Hillsboro. The 100 and 200 city block was closed for more than two hours as multiple departments battled and worked to contain the fire that began at approximately 6:30 p.m.

A portion of a greenhouse collapsed Wednesday afternoon in Washington Township, temporarily trapping a woman inside. The event occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. off state Route 73 in the community of Berrysville. Highland County was under a severe thunderstorm and tornado watch, with heavy winds and rains moving through the area, at the time the incident occurred.
