U.S. Department of Energy officials anticipate hundreds of jobs will come to southern Ohio for the next phase of the cleanup of the former Piketon uranium enrichment plant built during the Cold War.

Charges are pending against two Hillsboro men following an alleged drug overdose.
 According to the Hillsboro Police Department, a call was received Monday at approximately 11:03 p.m. reporting "a man down in the parking lot of the Hillsboro Center," located in the 1000 block of North High Street, and indicated a subject had overdosed.

A two-story family dwelling may be a total loss after the structure caught fire in the 400 block of Johnson Street Monday evening, according to Hillsboro Fire Chief Jerry Powell. The family is on vacation, he said, and no one was at home when the blaze began.
   According to assistant fire chief Ed Puckett on Tuesday, the fire remains under investigation.
 "It is under investigation by Hillsboro fire investigators in cooperation with the state fire marshal's office. At this time, we can say the fire is considered undetermined. It does appear to be suspicious in nature. We're still investigating."
 Puckett said that samples have been taken from the scene for testing, and a determination will be made following their analysis.

Culvert replacement will require east and westbound State Route 350 to be closed between Farmers Road and Hildebrandt Road beginning Tuesday, August 17 for two weeks. Portable message boards will be erected to inform the public.

The Supreme Court of Ohio has amended portions of two rules governing disclosure of political party affiliation and solicitations of campaign contributions by judicial candidates. The Supreme Court took the action in response to a decision by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals last month that struck down similar rules in Kentucky. The amendments become effective Aug. 12.

Ohio is seeing a surge in the number of voters registering by way of public assistance programs. The increase may be related to the 2010 gubernatorial election and/or the fall midterm congressional elections.

Rhoads was placed into custody and charged with Illegal Assembly of Chemicals used to Manufacture Methamphetamine. Lovely and Boles were taken into custody on their respective outstanding warrants. All three were transported to the Highland County Justice Center.
